Vehicle sharing

Not every person uses a car all the time, so if you are rarely in need of one, you might consider car sharing.

Here are the 3 most known car sharing companies in Budapest:

MOL Limo

Mol Limo offers 2 brands of cars, Volkswagen and Mercedes. They have a total of 450 vehicles; 100 electric and 300 petrol-fueled VWs and 50 A-Class Mercedes cars. In 2019, they expanded their service to Liszt Ferenc International Airport, so you can grab one of their cars as soon as you land.

You can access their vehicles and parking spaces through their mobile app, available on App Store and Google Play.

Additionally, they have a useful tutorial video on their website on how to register and use their services.

GreenGo

GreenGo was the first carsharing company in Budapest. Today they have around 300 electric cars in the city. They put high emphasis on using only ‘green’ cars, as they want to encourage people to be more conscious of the environment.

If you are coming from the airport, they have a GreenGo parking lot next to the Airport Hotel, so you can access one immediately after landing.

You can access their cars and maps through their mobile apps listed below, and for videos on how to use their app and any further information, visit their site.

DriveNow

Owned by BMW, DriveNow started operating in Hungary in 2019. Currently they have 250 BMW vehicles including electric, gasoline and diesel cars.

You can check out these different cars and their prices on their website. They also have detailed instructions on how to use DriveNow, so you will have a car as easily and as soon as possible.

They also have a dedicated parking lot at Budapest Airport to make your arrival or departure even more convenient.

For any additional information check out their website or their mobile apps.

Navigating in a busy city is not always the most convenient by car. You might not find a parking space or you simply cannot access the part of the city you desire.

So, if you want to get around, yet do not want to walk, here are some options for you.

MOL Bubi

MOL Bubi is a bike sharing network in Budapest developed in 2008, and officially started in 2014. As of 2019, they have 143 stations and 1 846 bikes in the city.

All their bikes can be accessed at their stations scattered around the capital, where you can purchase time-based tickets for the bikes. However, if you are in a hurry, or do not want to use a terminal, you can buy tickets through their mobile app.

The first 30 minutes of the ride of each hire is free of charge, then the price will get gradually higher every 30 minutes. If you do not want to worry about this, you can purchase a quarterly, semi-annual or annual pass to BuBi’s service.

For a tutorial video and any additional info check out their website and mobile app.

Donkey Republic

The Danish company brought their bikes to Hungary in 2017, which currently stands as a competition to the services of MOL BuBi.  Donkey Republic offers 2 solutions to rent one of their bikes: ‘just Ride’ and ‘Membership’.

With Just Ride you pay at the end of your trip and the longer you ride, the cheaper each time section will get. If you choose a membership, you pay upfront for unlimited bike rentals, theft-insurance and either 1 or 12 hours free with every rental.

If you want to know more about their services or technology, look up their website and phone app.

Lime

Upon the success of electric vehicles and sharing in Budapest, the US-based company, Lime, introduced its electric rollers to the city in 2019. Similarly to MOL BuBi and Donkey Republic, you can rent these e-rollers through their mobile application.

Inside the app, you can find available rollers according to your location, check charge percentages and prices. It is fairly easy to use, so you should give it a try. Do keep in mind though, that these rollers can go up to 25 km/h speed, so drive carefully.

Another option to cruise around the city with is Blinkee’s electric mopeds. They currently have 95 bikes in Budapest and 16 at Pécs. Similarly to other sharing companies, you can access their services through their own mobile app.

For now, they only offer mopeds in Budapest, however, there is a possibility they will expand the range of their vehicles here.
