Taxi

The easiest way of travelling in the city, however, if you are not careful enough you can get easily scammed. When booking a taxi, always check if the logo of the company and the one on the taxi are the same.

As of July 1, 2018, all taxis in Hungary have to use the same tariffs regardless of ordering or catching it in the street:

  • Base fee for pick-up: 700 HUF
  • Price/km: 300 HUF
  • Waiting fee/min: 75 HUF

You can pay with cash or card, and most taxis even accept euros, but be aware that their exchange rates are quite high and can only give back in HUF.

You can look around the Internet as Budapest has many taxi companies; however, we would recommend using Bolt, formerly known as Taxify. The concept of Bolt is very similar to Uber or Lyft with the exception of using taxi cars. You just download the app, select your destination and it will give you a time and cost estimate for your ride. You can choose if you want to pay by cash or card.
